Ullankartano Reopens After Major Renovation

Today is a big day in Välkkylä as Ullankartano (Kajaanintie 34) welcomes its first tenants following a major renovation.

The renovation began in autumn 2025 and was completed in August 2026. As part of the project, Ullankartano now features a wood workshop, a PSOAS Study space, a game room, two sauna facilities, and a laundry room. Elevators were also added to two staircases. The property offers shared apartments, studios, and one-bedroom apartments.

Ullankartano Opens Its Doors Today

Tenants can start exploring their new homes today, and the Välkkylä community has a great opportunity to meet their future neighbours.

PSOAS is hosting a key collection event for Ullankartano’s new tenants. DNA will also be on site to help with internet connections, and burger truck will be serving food during the event. The day’s programme includes a quiz with a robot vacuum as the prize.

Tenants Helped Shape the Design

PSOAS wanted to involve tenants in the renovation process. At the beginning of the year, residents voted on the look and feel of a new common area, and 44% of votes went to the green-themed option, Forest.

The tenants’ choice directly influenced the design. The colour scheme of the new PSOAS Study space was based on the winning concept, helping ensure that the renewed building reflects the people who live there and supports everyday student life in the best possible way.

Open House Event in June

At the beginning of June, Ullankartano hosted an open house event, giving anyone interested the opportunity to take a look inside before completion. The show apartments and renovated common areas attracted plenty of interest, and now all apartments are ready for tenants to move in.

Välkkylä Continues to Evolve

The Välkkylä student housing village has been at the heart of student living in Oulu since the 1960s. In recent years, the area has undergone significant development. The new UNO building was completed in 2024, and renovations of two other properties have already been finished. Ullankartano is the third property to undergo a major renovation.
