Sampola, located at Kajaanintie 40, underwent a comprehensive renovation in September 2025. As part of the renovation, 42 new apartments were completed in Sampola, featuring modern materials with subtle splashes of color. The building has 18 studios, 18 two-room apartments, and six three-room apartments.

The common areas include a spacious club room, living room, bicycle maintenance room, and a versatile playroom for children. In addition, residents have access to a variety of other comprehensive services in Välkkylä, including a gym, PSOAS Study, and a barbecue hut.

The student village of Välkkylä, which was built between 1966 and 1971, underwent its first renovation between 1993 and 1995. New construction in the Välkkylä area began in the fall of 2022. The construction may result in noise disturbances for nearby residents.

Välkkylä is seven kilometers from the Linnanmaa university area, but the bus ride is brief. The Kontinkangas campus, the university hospital, and Medipolis are within a few minutes’ walking distance, as are the train and bus stations.
