For many students Välkkylä is a dream place to live. It is a significant part of the glorious history of student culture in Oulu – as well as the present day. The cozy Välkkylä student village was built in 1966-1971. Ylioppilantie 4 was built in 1971 and the most recent renovation was in 2023. Seponpaja, located close to Raksila’s versatile sports facilities, has a total of 112 apartments, half of which are studios and half are family apartments.

Välkkylä is some seven kilometers from the Linnanmaa campus. You can reach it by bus quickly and flexible. The departments of the Faculty of Medicine, the University Hospital and Medipolis are within a few minute’s walking distance, as are the train and bus stations.
