Dorms in Tirolintie 2 are meant for the exchange students of the University of Oulu.
If you like to socialize with other exchange students and have gatherings that last till the break of dawn (while always remembering the common rules) this is the place to be.
Tirolintie 2, also known as Pohjankaleva, was built in the late 1960s. Named after the late President Urho Kaleva Kekkonen, Pohjankaleva represents the long tradition of student housing in Oulu. Tirolintie 2 is ideally located between the university (Linnanmaa campus) and the city center in a modern, newly built neighbourhood. The distance to Linnanmaa campus area is 3,5 kilometers and buses to Linnanmaa run regularly.
The dorms are from two to seven people. The seven room dorms are for both male and female. Each tenant has a lockable room of their own. There are two showers in each apartment, one for male and the other for female as well as two toilets and a shared kitchen.
The apartments are furnished with basic furniture consisting of a bed, table, chair and ceiling lamp. Bedclothes are provided by PSOAS and there is a washing service available for them once a month. Tenants can also do their own laundry in the laundry rooms. Kitchenware is not provided by PSOAS but in most apartments usable items left by the previous tenants are available.
Wifi
A Wifi Internet connection called Campusnet is available in all rooms. The bandwidth is 100/100 Mb/s and no monthly fee is charged. To use the Campusnet you will first need to create an OmaPSOAS account at www.omapsoas.fi. The account can be created after the lease has begun with the personal rent reference number which can be found on the rent payment form. Once you have created the OmaPSOAS account, you can login to Campusnet using the same account within an hour.
Mail will be delivered in the mailbox beside the front door on the ground floor.
Laundry room and bedlinen storage
The laundry room is located in the basement of the building and sauna is located on the ground floor. To use these facilities you need to make a reservation at OmaPSOAS. In the laundry room there are instructions on how to use the washing machines. Bed linen storage is located on the first floor. You can access the storage on the last Wednesday of every month, and change your used bed linen into a freshly washed set.
