Resident's Guide

Collecting, hauling and handling waste is expensive. The purpose of the Waste Act is to reduce the amount of garbage that is created and to reuse recyclable material. By following these new waste management rules, PSOAS has managed to reduce its waste management costs.

Waste management

The most important part of waste management is the consumer-tenant, who also pays the costs of waste management in his or her living expenses. Recycling usable items and sorting your garbage benefits everyone.

Ekopiste has places for packaging for liquids, egg cartons, glass, metal, batteries, recyclable paper and cardboard. Biowaste is put in the composter as such. Do not put plastic, liquids or anything else that does not belong there in the composter. Mixed waste containers should not have any waste that could have been sorted and put in its proper place. Empty the bag into the container first and then put the bag in. You should always use the farthest containers first.

From the beginning of the year 2011 we are able to collect energy waste in all PSOAS locations except for Rantakatu 6 and Rautatienkatu 8. Energy waste (burnable waste) refers to
materials that cannot be recovered as material. Here you can find more information on collecting energy waste.
