Resident's Guide

Moving in

The first of the month is usually considered to be the day you can move in.

You can, of course, move in later than that, but your rental agreement always takes effect on the first of the month and you must pay rent from the day the rental agreement starts. You can receive the keys to your apartment only when the office is open. If, for some reason, you receive the keys directly from the previous tenant, write down who gave you the keys and how many keys you got and send the paper to PSOAS accommodation office. You can also use a ready-made form from here.

When you move in, inspect the apartment and the condition of its contents carefully. Fill in the Apartment Report online on PSOAS website within four days from moving in. With this report you can describe traces of normal tear-and-wear (e.g. stains and marks on walls or floor). When moving out the condition of the apartment will be compared to information provided in this report at the final inspection.

Faults that need to be repaired by the property maintenance should be reported using the online AVUX Fault Report system . For example, faults like leaking water tap or broken electrical socket require immediate repairing and should be reported using AVUX. Please note, that if something in your apartment needs to be repaired you have to inform us immediately.

When you move into a room in a shared apartment, you should agree on the rules for the apartment with the other tenants that live there so that the common areas stay in good shape and stay clean.

If you would like to attach items to the walls, you must use the fastener strips on the walls. If your apartment does not have these strips, you can use 2-3 suitable fastener hooks that comply with the instructions given for fastening items to walls. Adhesive hooks may only be used on the tiles located in the bathroom/washroom. Attaching items to the window frames and doorframes is not allowed. Breaking the surface of doors and closets is absolutely forbidden. Mosaic mirrors and other permanently attached items must be left in place when you move out.

Mail

Once you move in, you should mark your name on your mailbox or the letter plate on your door. The easiest way to change your address and notify the Population Register Centre is by calling 0203 456 456 on weekdays from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
